Without treatment, about half of men get worse and the other half get better or stay the same. In many instances, the pain or curvature of the penis is the deciding factor on when to get treatment. In other words, it comes down to quality of life (and sex!). As little as 400 IU daily increases risk for prostate cancer and bleeding. Perhaps the primary benefit for Peyronie’s is that L-arginine helps improve erectile dys-function, which can be a symptom of this disease.

It is a medication we offer when patients are wanting a pill for treatment. It is not clearly established that this medication is effective, but there has not been proven that no patient has any benefit. Penile plication is one common surgery for people with mild curvature. This involves pinching or removing a piece of tissue on the opposite side of the curvature of the penis, then using permanent stitches to help straighten it. A technique known as iontophoresis uses an electric current to administer a combination of verapamil and a steroid noninvasively through the skin.

The recommended daily dose is 4 (0.5gram) tablets or 6 capsules, and the number of pills patients are asked to take discourages many from going with this Peyronie’s treatment. This medication was popular in the 1990s but is no longer in use. For decades, Vitamin E has been commonly prescribed Peyronie’s disease treatment because it is inexpensive and can be an effective treatment for scarring . In the past, when men wanted to try a pill, Vitamin E was suggested as an option because although we did not necessarily think it would be effective, but it was only a Vitamin. There is now evidence indicating that there is no efficacy, and therefore, we no longer mention this as an option. While injections of medications into the penis are typically used only once Peyronie’s disease has reached a stable phase, researchers are looking at the potential for this treatment to help in the acute phase.
All about Peyronie's disease
Penile curvature is generally related to the development of a dense inelastic plaque within the penis. In order for creams, pills or other treatments to be effective, they need to change the affected tissue from a dense scar back to elastic, supple, and healthy tissue. To date, no pill or cream has been shown to be highly effective in achieving that goal. The following is a list describing some of the more common medications used in Peyronie’s disease treatment, although this represents only a partial list of all available treatments. Most of these Peyronie’s treatments are used early in the course of the disease when the curve can potentially get worse, or stay the same, or improve.
Peyronie’s disease is often painful, although the pain tends to eventually resolve on its own once the plaques stop growing. Ask your doctor about using iontophoresis as a less invasive alternative to injections. It’s not yet clear how well this treatment works as a therapy for Peyronie’s disease. Don’t forget that ultrasound is one of the common tests for abnormalities in penis. Several sound waves are produced proper images of soft tissues. And all such tests helps to know the presence of scar tissue, penis blood flow and other things. Most commonly, the surgeon removes the hardened scar tissue and replaces it with a patch of skin from your groin. Other methods involve removing or pinching the penile tissue on the side opposite the scar tissue to counteract the bending; another approach is to cut into the scar to allow the penis to straighten. In some cases, the doctor will insert a prosthesis into the penis to straighten it.

This medicine has been approved for use in adult men with moderate to severe curvatures and a palpable nodule. Oral medications aren't recommended in the chronic phase, as they haven't been shown to be effective at this stage of the disease. Shock wave therapy, stem cells and platelet-rich plasma also haven't been shown to be effective in human studies.
